Cleanse Anyone?

In our everyday life, we get exposed to lots of toxins. In the foods we eat, there are pesticides, mercury, chemical fertilizers etc. Our body needs to get rid of these toxins to stay healthy. There are inbuilt mechanisms in our digestive system to do exactly that. Our organs like liver, kidney, gall bladder and colon work together with help from enzymes to break down the toxins and excrete them via urine and stool. When you augment these natural processes with a cleansing diet, it has the same effect as cleaning up the filters in your auto engine so that the engine keeps running smoothly.

A lot of digestive work is done by the liver, the largest organ in our body. It catches toxins like pesticides and mercury and allows nutrients from the food we eat to enter our bloodstream. What does the liver do with these toxins? It excretes them in the bile which then travels all the way to your intestines on its way to get eliminated from your body.

Kidneys also play an important role in cleansing the body by filtering blood and getting rid of toxins in urine.

And then colon with help from its guard cell lining blocks the toxins from moving into your bloodstream. And then these toxins get eliminated with regular bowel movements.

A cleansing or detoxifying diet gives a helping hand to the body’s natural cleansing systems. It usually involves eating whole, natural, unprocessed foods that are packed with nutrients and fiber. These foods help boost the efficiency of enzymes and digestive organs like liver, kidneys, and colon.

So, I embarked on a cleansing journey two days ago along with my daughter. It is mostly a raw vegan diet with an add-on grilled vegetable side for dinner. I will keep posting the daily menu as we make progress in this journey. Stay tuned for more…
